Importing Household Effects to Turkey

Please note when shipping to Turkey, you must ensure you have the correct documentation in place prior to shipment. Customs regulations and documentation can vary greatly depending on your immigration status.  Duty free entry can be obtained providing you have owned and used the goods from a minimum period of 12 months prior to shipment.   The goods must arrive in Turkey 2 months before or 5 months after your last entry into Turkey 

Restricted and Prohibited Items for Turkey

It is recommended you do not include the following within your shipment:

• Firearms and ammunition
• Inflammable goods and substances
• Plants and plant material
• Foodstuffs to include perishables
• Alcohol, narcotics and dangerous goods
• Pornography or goods likely to cause offence

Transit Times for shipments to Turkey 

Groupage or shared loads can usually take between 8 – 12 weeks door to door. Full containers can take 3 to 6 weeks from door to door and can be shipped through the major ports of Istanbul or Izmir.

Please note the above are estimated times and these can vary depending on weather conditions, port congestion or volumes of traffic to be shipped

Customs Clearance in Turkey

Please allow 10 to 15 clear working days from the arrival of your goods for custom clearance.  All normal custom clearance charges are included in your relocation cost, but any additional custom charges or duties applied upon arrival, will be met by our overseas agent who will seek reimbursement from you prior to delivery.

Please note all electrical items must be detailed on your packing inventory to include brand name and serial numbers. 

You are also limited to the number of electrical items you can include in your consignment

Destination Services in Istanbul and Izmir

Once your goods have arrived and gone through custom clearance, you will be contacted by our agent who will arrange a convenient date for the delivery of your goods to your new home.  Any items packed or wrapped by the removal operatives at origin will be unpacked and unwrapped at your new property.  You can choose to unpack your own effects but please not this may impact on any insurance you have in place.

Top Tip When Moving To Turkey 

Ensure you have the correct documentation before organising your shipment and that you have the correct visa in place.  To assist customs, try and keep a separate list of all your electrical goods along with the brand name and serial number to pass to our removal operative when he arrives.  Any items that you may have purchased and kept the box, it is not recommended that you use this box for the shipment as you will have to prove to customs this is not new to avoid paying duty, so always best to let Appleyards box/wrap these items for you in one of our professional packing cartons.

Should you wish to insure the goods in transit you will need to ensure you have the Marine Insurance proposal form back with our team back here in the UK prior to the shipment of the goods.  Ideally you need to be in receipt of your certificate before the removal crew handle your goods.
