Moving To Switzerland

Moving To Switzerland

Moving to Switzerland for Sun, ski and amazing views?

Surrounded by the European Union, the land locked and mountainous country of Switzerland has been a consistently popular country for people looking to move overseas.  With it being one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and with an idyllic landscape and beautiful scenery the pull of a move to Switzerland is undeniable.  With global cities Zurich and Geneva, moving for employment relocation is popular too.  Cities such as Basel, Lausanne and Bern offer visitors and new residents a cultured and vibrant way of life.

Moving To Switzerland With Appleyards

Moving to Switzerland is usually dealt with in the same way as another other move across Western Europe. Household and personal furniture and effects are moved on fully equipped vehicles, by professional European removal staff, using specific packing materials.  We can carry out all aspects of packing from providing materials only for you to do your own packing to a full professional packing service.  Appleyards of Hull can also discuss and help with poor access, deliveries to apartments without access to a lift and parking problems – factors such as these should always be discussed with your removal company as soon as possible as it can have an impact on delivery times, prices and schedules.

It is very important to note that the difference with moving to Switzerland from any other move to a European county is that as Switzerland is not a member of the EU, it is necessary to clear your goods through customs when the vehicle arrives in the country.  To move goods in to Switzerland the customs clearance process provides the relevant authorities with proof that you have obtained the relevant documents, accommodation and work permit if required.

Transit Times For Switzerland

Transit times on a move to Switzerland can vary.  It is subject to the size of the move, the method of transport (though usually a removal van) and the final destination address.

Restricted Items For Switzerland

We would generally recommend that it would not be advisable to send any of the following in your consignment to Switzerland – guns, ammunition and firearms; anything perishable such as fresh food; anything inflammable; plants and plant materials; offensive material; alcohol; dangerous goods; narcotics.

Please also bear in mind that there are limits on the volumes of cigarettes or alcohol that can be on vehicles that are in France en route to other countries.  Vehicles can be stopped and searched and if this happens and any vehicles are found to be carrying a higher volume of alcohol, tobacco or cigarettes than allowed, amongst household goods, can face huge fines plus the costs of delays to the vehicle and to any other party that is affected.
