How To Protect Carpets

How to protect carpets on your moving day. Covering carpets is an important consideration when you are moving home.  Remember it may even rain when you move!

We have some options and some advice that may be of help to you if you are moving or even just decorating your home..

What To Use To Protect Carpets

Trying to protect your carpets when you move home is something that you should discuss with your remover. You need to consider the situation at both the collection and delivery address. Health and safety means that removal crews have to wear protective footwear at all times and it is not practical to use overshoe covers every time they walk in and out of a house with every item.

Entrances are the main area where dirt may gather when coming in from the outside. Most professional removal companies will carry an entrance mat that they can put down to take off the worst of mess and you should consider using your own dust sheets to use in any other areas you may want protecting. Also see our guide to protecting stair carpets.

If carpets are very light in colour and you are moving on a wet day it is almost impossible to ensure that no muddy marks are cause, but these will usually brush out easily when dry or can be removed with hot soapy water. Use a proper carpet cleaning product for oil stains.

Loose covers cannot be placed over laminate flooring unless rubber backed as they will slide when walked on.

Top Tips When Protecting Carpets

Purchase a roll of sticky mat. This is really good value for money as you will normally only use about half a roll for your move and the rest can be saved for when you decorate. This product adheres itself to the carpet, prevents damage from paint or dirt and can be removed easily once you have finished with it.
